I have secretly always wanted to be a runner. I wanted to be one of those people who get up early in the morning and go running, (you know with the cute little outfit and headphones on). They looked so fit and in the greatest shape. I would think I want to do that, but I never thought I could. I was always the last one to finish running the fitness test in school. It would take me so long; gym class would be over and I would still be trying to finish that last lap. Well, that seem to follow me into my adult life and after while it became fear and intimidation of running. Don’t get me wrong I have always been an active person and I love to workout. Running just seem to be the thing that was out of my reach. Any of you that run know that it is not an easy thing to do. You don’t just pick up and decide to be Jackie Joyner Kersey one day. It takes training and time for your body get used to it. Well, my friend told me about this phone app Couch to 5K. It’s a training and conditioning app that gets you ready to run a 5K in nine weeks by alternating walking and jogging three days a week. I started last week and I have kept at it for almost two weeks. I am still in the beginning stages of conditioning, but I get up every other morning and go for a walk/jog. I am so excited, and I look forward to doing it everyday. It is the most freeing and amazing experience. I can’t believe I am even doing it at all. I am pushing myself even when it hurts and when it gets hard. I look forward to the day when I can run for an entire thirty minutes and not have to walk at all. I have truly conquered something that I didn’t think I would be able to do. Even if I don’t do a 5K I am still proud that I took the step and faced this. I feel like this year is a year that I begin to conquer a lot of the fears that I’ve had for a long time and I’m actually excited to do that!
